RNA-Based Therapeutics and the Demand for RNA Pools
While DNA pools have traditionally dominated the landscape, the "RNA Revolution" is creating a parallel demand for RNA oligonucleotide pools. These are essential for the development of RNA interference (RNAi) therapies, antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), and mRNA-based vaccines. RNA pools allow for the screening of different "chemistries" and "modifications" that can protect the RNA from degradation in the human body, a critical hurdle for therapeutic success.
Current trends in the Oligonucleotide Pool Market indicate that RNA-based segments are growing at a CAGR of over 15%. This is fueled by the success of mRNA technology during the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent investment in RNA therapies for heart disease and rare genetic disorders. Manufacturers are developing "enzymatic" synthesis methods for RNA pools to overcome the limitations of traditional phosphoramidite chemistry, which struggles with longer, more complex RNA sequences. These innovations are expected to halve the production time for therapeutic-grade RNA libraries by 2030.
